I had to opportunity to participate in the ever record breaking GTMK Game Jam. Our team consisted of me, a programmer and a composer. The theme was "loop", so we ended up making a puzzle game, where the game restarts every 1 minute. The game sets place on a spaceship, approaching a black hole rapidly. Explore the ship and find clues to solve the puzzles, and escape the grasp of the black hole.
I was responsible for all the 3D and 2D assets for the game. We used a pixel-lighting shader to achieve a unique look. This meant that I could make low poly models, and I didnt need to texture them, speeding the process up insanely. This was necessary to be able to finish all the assets, since the 4 day time limit.
For the direction of the art and world building, I took inpiration from Signalis. I played it somewhat of a month ago, and I really liked all the communist designs, and the casette futurism aesthetic.
I especially really enjoyed creating all the propaganda posters, and writing the lore through "environmental" story telling into the notes.
The game is definetly flawed, and has some very big issues. The biggest one is that its too dark and its hard to see where to go, meaning players get stuck easily. The intended progress route is also a bit poorly communicated, some doors are opened by things that may not be intuitive.
Even with all this I think we managed to create a decent game, and feedback has been quite positive so far. Players seem to really like the athmospehere and visuals of the game.
