I had the opportunity to take part in the first Acerola Jam. It was a solo Jam with a two week timeframe. In addition to this, the rules were that we should aim to only use things we made in the Jam's timeframe.
I've worked with Unity before, but I didn't like it, so I ended up learning Godot for this Jam.
The theme was abberation, but I couldn't come up with anything great, so I ended up making a short linear 2D action game, where you have to fight two bosses. The gameplay and art style was meant to mimic that of Hollow Knight's, as a joke and homage.
Making everything by myself was extremely challenging, and I ended up working 13-4 hours everyday for two weeks. I had to learn a completely new programming language and engine, create a bunch of 2D assets and animations, write music, and make custome sound effects. In the end, besides the player sprites, I managed to finish everything, and I'm happy with the result.
The spires were drawn and animated in Krita.
I'm familiar with 2D art, but nowhere near good at it, so this was probably the biggest challenge of the Jam. I also had to try and match the style of Hollow Knight, which made everything a lot harder.
While I think the background objects turned out pretty bad, I'm actually quite pleased with the bosses, especially the animation.
You can see the idle animation of a 3rd boss, that I didn't have time to properly finish and implement.
